Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Hello, and welcome to my page! My name is Jamie, I am Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from Connecticut.
Many of you may have found me through social media, where I am known as "The Sleeved Dietitian."
As much as I would like to say that I have always been healthy and interested in nutrition, that simply isn't true! You see, I grew up with child hood obesity, and when I was just fourteen years old, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It wasn't until my early 20's that I finally decided to change my life and get healthy!
I decided to take my health into my own hands despite my diagnosis. I learned as much as I could about nutrition on my own, until 2013 when I decided to change career paths and went back to school to be a Registered Dietitian! It was during this time that I lost 70 lbs through diet and exercise!
By 2016 I graduated with my B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics. I was just about to start my Dietetic Internship, when I realized, despite my newfound knowledge in nutrition, my weight was climbing up again, and I was unable to continue to lose weight on my own. Although I kept up with healthy eating and good habits, my medical diagnosis of PCOS was hindering my progress. I finally decided in 2017 to take the next step on my own personal weight loss journey and I decided that bariatric surgery would be a good fit for me!
December 2017 I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy procedure. Going through bariatric surgery was the toughest experience of my life. The approval process was tiring, draining, and very difficult. I was scared of surgery and scared of what my life would be like after. Although it was difficult, it was completely worth it. My life has changed for the better since my sleeve surgery. I feel as though I have a new chance at a healthy life. Since surgery I have lost over 100 lbs! Weight loss surgery isn't a decision to be made lightly, and it certainly isn't the best option for all on a weight loss journey, but it was the right decision for me.
I truly feel that my personal experiences have made me a stronger dietitian. I understand first hand what my clients/patients are going through. I feel as though it has made me more empathetic. I have realized that weight loss is not so black and white and it is certainly not a one size fits all solution. Everyone's needs and lifestyles are so different, which is why I tailor my counseling and recommendations to each individual.
I know how difficult it is to lose weight both with and with out surgery and I understand the obstacles you face. Regardless of where you are on your journey to health, I am happy to listen to your concerns and work with you to overcome those obstacles.
I am very open about my own personal journey. Please feel free to learn more about me by following my Instagram page: @thesleeveddietitian. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at any time. I would love to meet you and get started on helping you with your own journey to health. I promise it's worth it!
